Release date: April/May 2013

Steam Greenlight has given the go ahead to release Routine: a very cool looking Exploration horror game set on an abandoned Lunar Base. The game itself will feature, No Health packs, No Level ups, No points, and a perma death system giving a feeling of tenseness and paranoia to what will most likely be a creepy ass Sci-Fi horror experience. I for one look forward to grabbing this one up. Check out some screenies and the teaser trailer for this after the break. (more…)

Erie. Free Horror.

Erie drops you into a visually stunning, yet terrifying scenario where your goals are to investigate, survive, and finally escape. It’s first person horror meets intense dark-ride with hidden, rotting cats. Erie begins in October 1966, when the Fermi 1 Nuclear Power Generator suffers a partial meltdown, and locals begin disappearing from a sleepy Michigan town. Oliver Victor is a Red Cross Investigator sent to find missing locals, but quickly finds himself trapped underground and being hunted by a product of forced-mutation experiments. Oliver’s rescue mission quickly turns into a struggle to survive, escape and uncover what’s been happening under the nuclear plant on the shores of Lake Erie. Developed by the University of Utah’s EAE Master Games Studio Program.

Erie is an Independent Horror game that I haven’t had the chance to try out yet, but I intend to do so very, very soon. C’mon it’s a free horror game, with decent looking production. Go here and download it. Check out some game footage and screenies after the break. (more…)

Plague Inc. IOS.

Plague Inc. IOS.

“Plague Inc. is a unique mix of high strategy and terrifyingly realistic simulation. Can you infect the world?
Your pathogen has just infected ‘Patient Zero’. Now you must bring about the end of human history by evolving a deadly, global Plague whilst adapting against everything humanity can do to defend itself.” Ndemic Creations.

Honestly I couldn’t begin to tell you how much cash I have spent on apps for my various I-devices. Whether it is the kids’ iPods, me and wifey’s iPhone’s or our iPads – it seems like there is a new cool game or writing app or flavor of the week just waiting on the app store to rob me of my hard earned dollars. With credit cards and iTunes cards it’s so damn easy to idly spend money; without really noticing it. Ahhh it’s just $0.99, that’s nothing, no big deal. After about five or six hundred times it adds up! Anyway more to the point; I tend to lean toward the RPG, Sim or Strategy areas of the games categories, and being the horror addict that I am, I try to scoop up anything that looks good, scary, bloody, zombie (not Plants vs Zombies – I’m not that guy), crazy or otherwise. I purchased Plague Inc. quite awhile ago and have enjoyed countless hours of phone/iPad gaming since. The game is basically a global plague outbreak simulator. One can control the evolution of virus’s, bacteria, fungal spores, nano-plagues and more; tailoring them through a realistic gene based customization process. You want your virus to be highly effective in hot climates and transmitted by mosquito’s; sure why not. How about you strain of bacteria annihilating the western world through it’s specialization in drug resistance and cold climates; causing insanity and sores in the process, yep. The various combinations determine how lethal a plague is, or how fast and where it would spread. Good times. The game takes place on a map of earth with all the major countries represented. Realistic news tickers highlight world events while keeping you informed of the emerging threat of plague. The fun really starts when the global death toll begins to rise while the various countries begin to combat the plague. If your a fan of viral outbreak apocalyptic shit and have and extra $0.99 in your jeans pockets, then buy Plague Inc. Apocalyptic mayhem, you control! Plague Inc. on the App Store.

Next Up: buying another app, and another, and another, and another, and……

Gametime: ZombiU

ZombiU. 2012.

ZombiU. 2012.

ZombiU is a first-person survival horror game set in London, in which the player assumes the role of a random survivor in a zombie apocalypse. The player collects various items and weapons, used to fight and kill zombies, that are located or looted from different areas. If the player’s character is killed by a zombie, which can occur with a single bite, the character will permanently die and the player will then take the role of another random survivor. The previous character will become a zombie, who the player must kill in order to reclaim his original inventory.

I ended up buying my rugrats the new Wii U console for christmas this year, cuz ya know they gotta keep up with the latest techno gadgetry. With available titles including the steadfast Mario, Just Dance and Sonic titles I am just not that into the Wii (I have both); I’m a PS3 guy. So I decided to pick up ZombiU, a little treat for myself. Was I in for a blood soaked, fear inducing surprise. Right from the frantic introduction run through a horde of blood thirsty zombies the player is thrown into a desolate destroyed world filled with the undead. Every misstep is death, every miscalculation is death around every corner is death. Literally. If you plan poorly or try to go in guns blazing your zombie food; and when that happens you start over as a new survivor and might end up running into your zombified old character hungry for your flesh (very cool aspect of the game). Whether it’s scrounging for supplies, stockpiling your safe house or barricading yourself against the undead every decision is life or death. There are some truly terrifying moments in the game which are brought to life by the eerie score and the true feeling of lone desperation. The Wii U gamepad truly shines in this game, using for things like realtime maps, inventory switching, black-light scanning and sniper scoping makes for a truly immersive apocalyptic joyride. ZombiU isn’t your typical run through the hordes of zombies blasting away in a haze of blood drenched lead. It’s quite the contrary actually, high tension realism is the name of the game here. Its easy to die and ammo is hard to come by. I don’t remember playing a game that made me sweat with fear (well Doom 3 did) like this does. If your into real bone chilling survival horror, check it out.
