Being a huge fan of REC 1&2 (I didn’t say 3), I have been literally frothing at the mouth every time a tidbit of news, teaser poster or in this case trailer is released. Now the trailer is pretty much just a mash-up of the previous films; minus the trainwreck that was Genesis, it does whet the appetite for some blood soaked chaos. Doesn’t it! Evil Dead – A Pure Massacre

Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods. The evil presence possesses them until only one is left to fight for survival. Just got back from the theater, wiped the blood from my eyes and the gore from my clothing before finally allowing Evil Dead to “soak” in. A truly visceral blood soaked joy ride! In all honesty I was absolutely stoked for the film; waiting in feverish anticipation for the release of the remake of Raimi’s classic flick. Most of the time (for me anyway) the hype and build up a film destroy’s the actual experience of the film itself; with this in mind I nervously took my seat (at the back of the theater, of course) and began my journey back to that dilapidated cabin the woods. With dilated pupils I surveyed the frantic opening sequences of the film and a tense grin spread across my lips when the necronomicon was opened and the malevolent spirit began wreaking it’s bloody havoc on our unwary cast. As the madness set in, the massacre began. I was not to be disappointed; Evil Dead was arguably the best remake I have ever seen; a bloody re-imagining if you will. Bloody, insane carnage is the focus of the film and boy does it ever work! Gruesome practical effects, buckets of blood and brutally gory mayhem all combine to form one hell of a horror film. As a fan of hardcore horror and the original Evil Dead series I couldn’t be happier! Absolutely fantastic film! I will be expanding this into a review at some point this weekend so stay tuned…..In the mean time, GO SEE THIS FUCKING FILM!

With about 2 weeks to go until the international release of Evil Dead 2013 (I can’t sleep much these days), IMDB has already seen it’s share of reviews, ratings and rants concerning the film. I wish I had access to this screener or lived in an area where an advanced marketing screening was in progress, but alas that is not the case. Now I don’t really like ruining a film by reading to many reviews or lengthly synopsis’ by critics before I view a film, I like to be disappointed on my own terms. This is where the haters come in. (If I hate haters then am I a hater?). Bitching and moaning that the film is not exactly the same as the original. Whining about the fact that it’s not the same without Bruce Campbell, or Sam Raimi behind the helm. Comments like, “This film should never have been remade”, “Evil Dead for the Xbox generation”, “why should we consistently be subjected to remakes” and “The story is a vacuous imitation of the Raimi classic”. Get over it! It’s a horror film. It’s a remake, so what! Look at it this way, at least we get another horror flick out of the deal. I am trembling with anticipation for Evil Dead so I am going to focus on the postive’s here, Haters be damned. Oh and watch the insane red band trailer, Now!

Blah, blah, blah…for me and most people I know St. Patricks day is about one thing and one thing only; getting absolutely stinking drunk! While I have adhered to this tradition of excessive alcohol consumption for most, if not all of my adult years, I decided to stray a little this year. Irish themed horror! What better way to celebrate St Patricks day! My original choices for Irish horror were Shrooms (which was a great psychological drugged out horror-fest), Isolation (not a bad genetic experiment type horror flick) and Wakewood (which I have yet to see), all horror flicks from the emerald Isle. Something went sideways and I ended up settled on the Leprechaun saga. Yep all 6 films back to back, a great Irish themed horror marathon. That was the plan; 12 hours of bloody Leprechaun madness. Things didn’t go exactly as planned.

What better way to get “into” a story than by secretly moving your entire family into a house where a family of four was murdered; strung up and hung from the old tree in the backyard.

Christopher, Rose and Sharon from the First Film.

I caught Silent Hill Revelation on demand recently, a little late and unfortunately not in 3D; but having been a big fan of the original Silent Hill and all it’s hellish glory, as well as the intensely creepy video game series, I immediately rented it when it popped up. Silent Hill Revelation takes places some years after the original; Sharon (Adelaide Clemens) and her father Christoper (Sean Bean) have been living under assumed identities after the events of the first film. Rose (Radha Mitchell) discovers a doorway linking the world of Silent Hill and the real world; using it, she sends Sharon back, trapping herself in Silent Hill in the process. We learn all of this in a very short flashback, featuring a young Sharon and a grieving Christopher. Christopher, now going by the name of Harry, promises Rose that he will protect their daughter from the evil forces of Silent Hill that are seeking her. Sharon, now 18, is plagued by constant visions and waking nightmares of a dilapidated town and it`s demonic inhabitants. Checked out V/H/S last night and enjoyed it very much, despite hating anthology based flicks. The film is a grainy grindhouse(ish) mash-up of several genre’s of horror held together by a shaky not-so cohesive main plot. The main section of V/H/S has a dark and gritty 80’s feel to it, though I found it to be the weakest part of the film it does not detract from the individual storylines presented throughout. Each segment is portrayed via found footage compiled on a V/H/S tape and involves different characters and locations. Here is a general breakdown of each story minus any spoilers ofcourse. But what the soldiers don’t know is that she carries the seed of the strange infection. She is to be taken to a provisional quarantine facility, a high-security installation where she will have to stay in isolation for several days. An old oil tanker, miles off shore and surrounded by water on all sides, has been especially equipped for the quarantine. IMDb. I’m really stoked for the latest installment of the Rec franchise to come out, I loved Rec and Rec2. Rec3 was complete trash but by the sounds of things they are bringing things back to the original storyline. Thank god. Here’s the teaser for Rec4 Apocalypse it pretty much just re hashes the first 2 installments but it’s all there is at the moment.
