The Bighead

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read this “this project has been funded” on kickstarter, referring to Edward Lee’s seminal splatterfest, The Bighead. What sicko’s would actually want to see that perverse, degrading, gross, atrocious, blood spattered book ever made into a film…….well me for one. I read the book, threw up, read it again some months later, blogged about it, threw up again and decided I enjoyed the book immensely. If you haven’t read The Bighead (must have a strong stomach) I suggest you do, it is the literary equivalent of A Serbian Film and The Human Centipede combined and on crystal meth. Here’s a link to a short write up I did on the book Wurd: The Bighead. Anyway (excuse my frothing at the mouth) a short film has concluded filming and is set to be premiered in Los Angeles on Saturday March 30, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the Acme Theater in Hollywood. Check out the trailer and all the juicy details below.

The Bighead Film Info

The Bighead PosterBased on Edward Lee’s seminal and wildly controversial 2003 novel, “EDWARD LEE’S THE BIGHEAD” directed by Michael Ling is set in the West Virginian backwoods where vicious monsters, both human and supernatural, go on a terrifying rampage in search of a special young woman. Their path of destruction uncovers long held secrets and puts the fate of the entire world in jeopardy. The short film stars Raquel Cantu as the untamable sexpot Jerrica, Carrie Malabre as the shy Charity, Orson Chaplin as the demented psychopath Tritt “Balls” Connor, and Lance Trezona as Tritt’s dim-witted accomplice Dicky. Also starring are Ashley Totin as the prostitute Rosie, Michael Coons as conflicted priest Father Tom, P.D. Miller as the bartender Frank, and Kelsey Tipton as the Bighead’s first victim Wendy. The frightening Bighead monster itself is played by Cheetah Platt. Award-winning director of photography Fady Hadid shot the film from writer/director Michael Ling’s script. Geoff Skinner and Donald Wygal, Jr. produced.

The Bighead Trailer

Edward Lee’s The Bighead: TRAILER from Michael Ling on Vimeo.

The TeratologistBillionaire John Farrington is obsessed with the idea of offending God to the point that God would want to confront him in person. Farrington has abducted priests and nuns to commit sexual atrocities with the most grievously genetically deformed people he can find. People that he’s also abducted and kept in such a high state of sexual intensity, with a drug his company produces, that they are just ravenous for physical contact. The abductees, with basically no self control, commit some of the most depraved sex acts, over, and over again. Westmore and Bryant, a photographer and journalist, are given the rare opportunity to interview the reclusive Farrington and see inside his mansion and operation. Only to find the horrors within, and who have become pawns in the mysteries they find behind every door. Farmington’s plan may work, and to make sure he’s successful, he will do whatever it takes to have the deity of man face him. (Amazon)

Well that description above pretty much sums up what I was going to say….lol! Depravity, sexual depravity, deviancy, perversion, atrocities, insert horrible descriptive text here. I found The Teratologist quite entertaining to read (it seems that books of this sort are always entertaining for me to read) and it was another quick run through of the all to short 124 pages. Lee and White are truly twisted writers probing every sick orifice and exploring every dark perversion of humanity with a bloody no holds barred approach. Pure shock and awe here folks; tough subject matter and vomit inducing detail make The Teratologist a bizarre ride into the depths of decadence and madness the powerful elite oft take. Have fun with this one sicko’s, I did! The Teratologist @ Amazon

The Bighead

The Bighead, Edward Lee. 1997.

The Bighead is a horror novel by writer Edward Lee, released in 1997. It concerns “The Bighead”, a mentally challenged, inbred psychopath afflicted with hydrocephalus raging out in the Virginia backwoods, raping and killing whatever comes his way, and a sex-and-drug-addicted rebel named Jerrica. The book is noted for being one of the most graphic and disturbing horror novels ever penned, and has often been called the grossest book ever written (Wikipedia).

Well wiki isn’t far from the truth on this one. I’ve read The Bighead recently and well it is one big bloody mess, literally. Heavy on the graphic violence and laced with plenty of sex (good and bad). If you have no idea what splatterpunk is and want to find out well The Bighead is the embodiement of the the genre. If you have a sick, twisted and perverted view of the world, well then read this. If you like the Twilight series you might wanna steer clear of this one. Seriously anyone who can’t handle any type of extreme violence and I mean extreme stay far far away from The Bighead. Personally I enjoyed it. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the entire 274 page read; I guess the endless violence and extremely detailed descriptions of each obscene act kept me turning pages! Psycho sex hungry nuns, alcoholic hillbilly killers, torture, sunken temples, murder, sex addicted hotties, and that is barely scratching the surface here folks. Edward Lee is one sick dude, but damn he writes good shit. Check this out at your own peril. The Bighead @ Amazon
