A young man who escaped the clutches of a murderous hitch-hiker is subsequently stalked, framed for the hitcher’s crimes, and has his life made into hell by the same man he escaped. The Hitcher is a 1986 road thriller, directed by Robert Harmon and written by Eric Red. The film stars Rutger Hauer, C. Thomas Howell, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jeffrey DeMunn.

The Hitcher is a classic open road slasher starring, among others, Rutger Hauer. And honestly who the hell doesn’t like Rutger. It spawned a 2007 remake, directed by Dave Meyers and starring Sean Bean as the Hitcher. Decent as far as remakes go. Anyway if you haven’t seen the original Hitcher do yourself a favor and pick up a copy, iTunes it or whatever, watch it.

Why do we watch horror flicks….for the killing, the blood, the guts, the gore and to a lesser extent the scares.  I have compiled a short list of a few memorable death scenes that have stuck with me over the years.  Graphic Clips probably NSFW.  Here they are in no particular order.

Final Destination 5 (2011) IMDB – Gymnast Death (this is a fairly long clip, death scene is right near the end).  This was a downright ghastly scene of a gymnast dying from a massive fail on the uneven bars.  Whoa!

Deep Rising (1998) IMDB – Woman in bathroom (unfortunately this is the official trailer and the death occurs right at the end. I couldn’t find anything better). One of my favorite horror films, a bloody good time.

Maniac (1980) IMDB– This classic scene involves legendary FX guru Tom Savini receiving a shotgun blast to the head, in slow mo! Crazy.

Silent Hill (2006) IMDB– Pyramid head skin ripping. For some strange reason this death scene has always stuck with me. It is pretty gruesome.

Feast (2005) IMDB– Pretty twisted death of the biker chick, perverted and gross.
