Evil Dead 2013

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

With about 2 weeks to go until the international release of Evil Dead 2013 (I can’t sleep much these days), IMDB has already seen it’s share of reviews, ratings and rants concerning the film. I wish I had access to this screener or lived in an area where an advanced marketing screening was in progress, but alas that is not the case. Now I don’t really like ruining a film by reading to many reviews or lengthly synopsis’ by critics before I view a film, I like to be disappointed on my own terms. This is where the haters come in. (If I hate haters then am I a hater?). Bitching and moaning that the film is not exactly the same as the original. Whining about the fact that it’s not the same without Bruce Campbell, or Sam Raimi behind the helm. Comments like, “This film should never have been remade”, “Evil Dead for the Xbox generation”, “why should we consistently be subjected to remakes” and “The story is a vacuous imitation of the Raimi classic”. Get over it! It’s a horror film. It’s a remake, so what! Look at it this way, at least we get another horror flick out of the deal. I am trembling with anticipation for Evil Dead so I am going to focus on the postive’s here, Haters be damned. Oh and watch the insane red band trailer, Now!

Like you, I’m twitching in anticipation for this movie because I have to wait for the movie to premiere where I live… and like you I hate the whole “NO REMAKES!!!” thing.
Unless it’s a remake for localization issues only like what they did with Let the Right One In, Rec, Ringgu and others. Remaking a movie the same way just because audiences don’t like subtitles it’s as bad as dubbing.

Thanks for stopping by. I totally agree with localization issues concerning remakes, the Rec/Quarantine crossover wasn’t really necessary was it? But in general, who the hell cares that much about remakes, really? Some recluse living in his grandma’s basement, living and breathing Evil Dead (or what have you) stroking the Necronomicon? I personally love the idea of taking a film that was a struggle to make, fast forwarding 20 years, slapping $14 million dollars on it, and seeing what happens. Exciting times we live in!

I am struggling to function these days as well. I am so pissed at myself. There was a screening of the Evil Dead remake in downtown Toronto, with a Q and A afterwords with the director and I missed it. So now I am stuck waiting for its release, cannot wait…
